What's your poetic story?

About Us

Steady Moon Press was founded in May of 2012 by published author, Amanda Clark. Clark wanted to develop her own publishing company that provided more rights to authors, quality customer service and care for the author's vision, as well as free opportunities for authors of poetry. Clark was frustrated with the low royalty rates of traditional publishers and binding contracts. She also was frustrated with the lack of opportunities for books of poetry. She sought to establish her own company that focused on the author's needs, Themed Anthologies and the Narrative Poetry genre. She felt as an author herself, with a passion for poetry, she could make this happen.

Steady Moon Press is a small publishing company composed of Clark, artist Joel Rudolph, and 2-3 interns that are interviewed and chosen for each publication.

SMP takes care of all the initial up front fees and does not charge the author anything unlike many other companies that accept electronic submissions. Steady Moon Press makes this possible by printing books based on customer demand and a screening process that selects quality poets. Steady Moon provides authors with the opportunity to get their poetic story out to the public in a timely and professional manner. Unlike many other publishers out there, there is absolutely no catch. Accepted authors do not pay anything, they are not locked into a contract without their book rights, and they are encouraged to participate in the publishing process. Founder of Steady Moon Press, Amanda Clark, loves poetry and respects authors, and has made it her mission to put authors first.

Steady Moon Press accepts and screens submissions of  themed poetic anthologies and poetic narratives 2-3 times a year. Check the submissions tab often for openings.  If accepted, SMP provides authors with editing, formatting, and cover design. In addition to making your book available on amazon and other online retailers, Steady Moon will add your book to our web page, facebook page, and also distribute press releases to local papers in your community.

Your book will also be assigned its own unique ISBN if you wish to contact other retailers.

Additionally, you will hold rights to your book. This means that if you wish to leave Steady Moon (although we would hate to see you go) for any reason, you can, at any time. Please note that your book would cease in print through Steady Moon and the Steady Moon Press trademark name and logo could no longer be printed in your book.

Accepted authors are also invited to help in the publishing process. They can choose to submit their own photographs for cover art, participate in the editing process, and choose to write the back cover. If the author is not interested in participating in any of the above, no problem, Steady Moon will take care of it for you.

Steady Moon also provides authors with an electronic proof  of their book/poems before officially printing the book. This is reviewed by the author for any last minute changes. SMP would like to note that this proof may have changes and edits made to the poems but it is up to the author to okay these changes. SMP does not print any changes without the author's consent. We know that authors work hard on their submissions and offer suggestions that we think benefit the work; however, the final decision is  up to the author. Editing is just part of the process, and we make it our point to help, not hinder. This is just a reminder to not take edits personally, and also explain that at SMP edits are not final until the authors say they are.

In addition to the proof, Steady Moon provides the author with quality royalties (for single authored poetry books not anthologies), one free copy of their final product, as well as large author discounts if they wish to buy copies for themselves (although they do not have to buy anything) Additionally, Steady Moon catalogues books with the Library of Congress.

Steady Moon also provides authors with the opportunity to create e-books if they wish to expand their market.

Steady Moon Press also has qualified interns who aid in the publishing process. SMP involves interns in all aspects of the publishing process, and provides them with valid experience and learning opportunities that will benefit them in future careers. Interns receive mentoring from Clark, free promotional materials such as business cards, a free copy of the book they work on if they stay with the project beginning to end, and a letter of recommendation if they fulfill their duties. Please note that due to the small size of this company and limited budget, this is a non-paid  internship. This internship requires around 10-15 hours a week during submission times and around 0-10 hours a week after submissions are accepted. Publications from start to finish take an average of 6 months.  Duties of interns include: Posting on the SMP facebook page and writing blogs for the SMP blog. Editing and offering suggestions during the submission process, aiding in advertisements, professional relations and more. The internship is conducted primarily online so familiarity with technology is a must. If you are interested in an interning position please check this page for future openings or email steadymoonpress@gmail.com with "internship" in the To: field.
